- As we advance in age, the disc in the body become more likely to wear out and suffer from breaks, tearing of the outer shell and the gel within the disc expelled. The herniated discs condition mostly occurs in the lumbar (lower back) and cervical (neck area) spine. They are susceptible to bulges and herniations anywhere in the spinal column, leading to chronic pain, numbness, weakness if they are pressed against the nerves that exit the spine. Bulging discs, on the other hand may push against the spinal cord or nerve roots, resulting in severe pains and disrupting the overall mobility of the body.
